Our Founding Story

Ms. Dana Williams is the founder of "Family Outreach DMV," a transformative non-profit organization dedicated to uplifting families across the dynamic landscape of Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia (the DMV). With an unshakable commitment to fostering holistic well-being, Ms. Williams has emerged as a visionary leader in the realm of community empowerment and family support.

Ms. Williams’ personal journey, interwoven with the diverse fabric of the tri-state area, has deeply shaped her perspective on social equality and compassion. Her influential background in community service developed out of her experience as a female entrepreneur. Aftering earning a license in cosmology and opening her own salon, she came to possess a profound awareness that she was meant to further her entrepreneurial achievements. She expanded into owning her own transportation company, a restaurant, and later invested in real estate. An acquaintance reflects, “Dana’s story is what the American dream is all about. That’s one strong-willed woman - she was never deterred by nay-sayers. She was determined to make her own way, and she did it.

Having owned multiple businesses, Ms. Williams crossed paths with an array of people from various walks of life. She witnessed firsthand the stark disparities in access to essential resources and opportunities. This developed in her a deep-rooted determination to illuminate the gaps that often leave families in the shadows. Ms. Williams’ leadership style is defined by her genuine empathy and hands-on approach. She personally resolved to provide aid for families/individuals facing adversities. She fed the hungry, provided single parents with career/financial guidance, and catered to the needs of children of all ages. Over time, her community increasingly began to turn to her for advice.

Her tireless efforts to understand the multifaceted challenges faced by families in the tri-state area led her to establish the "Kids on the Move" summer program. This opportunity provides comprehensive support for children during the summer months, irrespective of their socio-economic backgrounds. Through this service, parents are alleviated of the burden of keeping their children wholesomely engaged while school is out of session. Ms. Williams speaks fondly about the topic: "I knew I wanted to provide local children with greater opportunities. So the first initiative I launched was a summer program. Our programs have expanded a lot, but "Kids On The Move" is closest to my heart. Every child deserves to experience a summer of magic."

Ms. Williams' pivotal moment came when she recognized that, beyond the summer program, the umbrella of services tangibly being provided embodied multiple areas of family care. Thus, the “Kids On The Move” summer program evolved into the progressive non-profit now known as “Family Outreach DMV.” Through innovative programs ranging from educational enrichment and career development, to healthcare advocacy and housing assistance, “Family Outreach DMV” has become a beacon of hope for countless families across these three states.

Despite her seniority within the organization, Ms.Williams’ believes in the power of personal connections and actively engages with both the families she serves and the dedicated volunteers and partners who share her vision. Her ability to foster an environment of collaboration and empathy has inspired a growing network of change-makers committed to the cause. She has adeptly forged alliances with local businesses, educational institutions, healthcare providers, and community leaders, creating a robust network of support for the families served by her organization. The organization’s “Family Resource Directory” is the result of this collaboration. “This is the power of partnerships at its best,” she says. “If we can’t address a need, we likely know somebody who can.”

Ms. Williams’ journey is a reminder that with unwavering determination great things are possible. From aspiring entrepreneur, to the visionary founder of "Family Outreach DMV," her work is a testament to her deep commitment to uplifting families across Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. Her legacy is one of empowerment, unity, and transformative change – a legacy that continues to shine brightly as families find solace and support under her guidance.

“Family Outreach DMV” is a significant indicator that meaningful cooperation is achievable despite the modern complexities of our divided nation. By addressing the unique needs of individuals and communities, positive change can be sown and nurtured across state lines. This collaborative mission is casting light upon the shadows, illuminating the tri-state district as a vibrant mosaic of thriving families.
